The Sabres were scheduled to fly to New York for a two-game series against the Islanders. That trip was delayed because of weather on Monday and then delayed on Tuesday because Buffalo did not have adequate time to complete COVID-19 contact tracing and testing protocols.

JVR's production has fallen off precipitously the last few seasons. Despite scoring 36 goals in 2017-18 as a member of the Maple Leafs, his total output dropped by eight points. That fall continued the next two years, as his output declined by six and eight points, respectively. Also, van Riemsdyk's ice time declined, contributing to that drop. This season, van Riemsdyk is off to a strong start, tallying five goals (four on the man-advantage) and seven helpers, including one on each of the three goals scored by Philly on Sunday.

While Ovechkin and defenseman Dmitry Orlov were removed from the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list Saturday, center Evgeny Kuznetsov and goaltender Ilya Samsonov remained on it. Orlov skated with the team but missed a fifth consecutive game. Pittsburgh Penguins

The NHL finished the 2019-20 season in bubbles set up in Edmonton and Toronto but did not attempt to replicate a bubble setup this season because players didn’t want to be away from home for the time it will take to play even an abbreviated schedule. The season was cut from 82 games to 56 and the league’s 31 teams were realigned to minimize travel, with the seven Canada-based teams grouped in one division to avoid dealing with border-crossing restrictions. Teams are playing games only within their respective divisions.

The Compher/Jost experiment began on Tuesday night, but one of the greatest characteristics of ex-Leaf Nazem Kadri is his ability to fill holes in the lineup even on a temporary basis. When the Avs needed a boost in the playoffs, they promoted Kadri to the wing. This versatility has been on display since his early days as a Maple Leaf. I had the opportunity to watch Kadri develop from his time with the London Knights, and there’s a chameleon-like ability to blend into situations, whether it’s playing with superstars, skilled and creative players, or grinding the game down in a lower roster role. The emotional attachment to his responsibilities have gotten him in trouble before with suspensions – noteworthy during the playoffs as a Leaf that may have been a factor in moving on and trading him away.

Historically, when the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers play each other, it’s a hard-hitting game, and last week’s game was no exception. I wanted to show the intensity of play and decided to use a lens that I wouldn’t normally use for shooting basketball. I used a 600mm lens to focus in on the action. Normally, I use this lens to cover NFL and MLB games where the field of play is much larger. Mitchell Robinson of the Knicks is always tough when he is on defense and sometimes it catches up with him as he fouls Andre Drummond of the Cavaliers in this photo. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, photographers are not working courtside. This elevated angle allows me to see both player’s faces and the entanglement of their arms is more apparent from this vantage point.

Despite an awkward zone entry, the Bruins gained a territorial advantage in the waning moments of the third period. From there, Pastrnak would not be denied, collecting the ninth hat trick of his career by making it 3-3 with about 15 seconds remaining in regulation.
